AOH Div. #32 Charity Golf Outing

The 10th Annual AOH Charity Golf outing will take place Friday, May 15th so please mark your calendar.  Co-chairs, Mike O’Malley and Dan Helfenbein are looking for volunteers to help with the planning of this major fund raising event.  Please consider helping out.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

The party was a great success despite some last minute changes.  Gordon Tech turned out to be great facility.  The Riordan brothers once again cooked a fantastic Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner.  Thanks to all who participated.

Lourdes Easter Soup Kitchen

Takes place on April 8.  We are donating sliced hams as well as our time.  Please contribute and remember to bring the kids as this is a scholarship eligible event for a $500 tuition scholarship.

Polar Plunge Charity Update

18 degrees, 13 mile an hour wind, with sand and snow blowing and our brave warriors entered the water and having met the challenge returned.  Sounds like an old Irish folk tale but that's what our brave plungers did.  Due to their efforts we gave Special Olympics a check for $3,100.  THANKS TO ALL THAT PLEDGED.  And thanks to our President, Kevin O’Connor who warmed everyone up with spirits and great chili.

WARRIORS Rick Clemens, Mike Forrest, Steve Forrest, Scott Forrest, Gregg Fahey, John Byrne, Ray Frailey, Matthew Moriarty (son of Marty), Tim O'Connor (son of our President).  Thanks to all, Ken Sullivan.

If you haven’t paid, please do so at the April Meeting.

Dues

In April we will be collecting Dues for the 2009 FY Year.  Please bring a check made out to AOH Division #32 for $50.00.  We will be collecting at every meeting so please pay early if you can.  We pay a head tax (Dues) to the National AOH based on our membership numbers so please contribute.  See Bernie Byrne for payment.  The board realizes that during these tough economic times some members may have trouble affording their membership dues.  If you find yourself in this predicament please see the president or any member of the board and we can arrange a one-time only waiving of your 2009 dues.  Confidentiality will be assured.

Also, if a member brings in five new members in a year, his dues will be waived the following year.

Mail dues to:

Ancient Order of Hibernians - Div 32

Misericordia Candy Day

On April 25 from 8am-4pm we will be manning the Milwaukee-Devon-Nagel intersection raising money for Misericordia.  Please help if you can.

Executive Board Meetings

All members are invited to attend.  The discussion is a little free wheeling but this is where all the planning for our events takes place.  Trustees are encouraged to attend.  So check us out!

President’s Message

The St. Patrick’s Day Party was a rousing success and I want to thank everyone who helped make it so.  We had truly spectacular weather and a great crowd, one of our biggest ever.  We have much more to do this year starting with the Lourdes Easter Soup Kitchen on April 8, Misericordia Candy Day on April 25 and our most important event of the year, Division #32 Annual Charity Golf Outing on May 15.  So please lend a hand as we continue to grow and prosper as an organization.  Many Thanks!      - Kevin O’Connor

A Lady Hibernians Event

Here’s the scoop for the L.A.O.H upcoming Candlelight Bowling event.  Any help we can offer to spread the word will be greatly appreciated.

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Division #8 will hold their 2nd annual Pat Gibbons-Carlson Memorial Candlelight Bowl on Saturday, April 18th at Timber Lanes (9 pm to midnight), located at 1851 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago (street parking). Tickets are $20 per person which includes bowling, shoe rental and pizza. They will be raffling baskets and prizes, as well as a Split-the-Pot raffle along with a cash bar. You don’t need to bowl to have a good time…there’s no cost to come out and just socialize. You can support the L.A.O.H. fund raising efforts by purchasing a raffle ticket or two. In these tough economic times, the ladies are inviting family and friends out for a cheap night of fun! Money raised will be used for donations to L.A.O.H. charities. This is their one and only fundraising event, and they will gladly accept cash or checks made payable to L.A.O.H. - #8 at the door/event.  (They are not selling advance tickets.)  Thanks for your support!

Division 32 Wants To Know...

Greetings to all Hibernians from Rome; I'm here for ten days of Lenten prayer and rest. Signs of Lent are everywhere in Rome. There are announcements of Stations of the Cross, special Lenten lectures and appeals for the poor. Most significant of all, perhaps is the daily "Station Church" Mass. Each day in Lent a special Mass is celebrated at 7AM in one of Rome's 40 oldest churches. It's really a pilgrimage through the city for Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday at St Sabina on the Capitoline Hill (built in the 4th Century) and concluding on Holy Thursday at St John Lateran Cathedral on the Lateran Hill (also built in the 4th Century). St Peter's Basilica on the Vatican Hill; It was built in the 4th Century too but torn down and rebuilt in the 15th-17th Centuries. Its Station Day is Saturday after the 1st Sunday of Lent, March 7 this year. By the way, I'm writing this on St Patrick's Day, celebrated here in Rome much as it is in Chicago! Have a blessed Lent. I'll see you soon.  Fr McC
