AOH Division #32 Picnic

Kevin O’Connor is running the annual picnic and he encourages everyone to participate.  Kevin would be grateful if those who contributed last year could pitch in again.  The picnic is always a good time so please help out and bring your family out for a day of fun in the sun.

Setup is 8:00 am with mass at 11:00 am and the picnic immediately following.  The fire truck should be there by 1:30.  We will also have clowns for the kids.

FREEDOM FOR ALL IRELAND

Tom Birt will be selling squares in our annual raffle to raise money for our donation to aid the people in the North of Ireland.  Squares will be available at our next meeting and at the picnic.  The winners money and a cross or harp carved by a former prisoner of the British will be determined by the score of the All Ireland football championship at the end of September.  This sells out fast, get in and help the cause - Ken Sullivan

AOH Bear’s Football Party

Jim O’Malley, Jr. is working with Harrington catering to set a date for our annual AOH Bear’s Football Party at the Irish American Heritage Center.  The games we are looking into are 11/16 at Green Bay and 11/23 at St. Louis.  We will have the squares ready and for sale at the picnic, as well as the general meetings in October and November.  Ticket prices should be between $30 and $35.  Stay tuned for details.

Scholarship Winners:

This year’s winners of $500 awards are:  Tony Issa, Kevin Tompkins, Mike McGovern, Dillon Fahey, Mike Hickey, and Patrick Moriarty.  Thanks to all who participated in our charitable events.

Misericordia Family Fest

John Resch is seeking volunteers for helping out with parking at this year’s event on September 7 and the Chapel dedication parking help on September 14.

New Items

The Charity Committee has been discussing ways to create care packages for our soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as a way of showing our appreciation for serving our country.  Please let us know of any service members currently serving over seas.

Dues

We are collecting at every meeting.  Please pay on time.  We pay a head tax (Dues) to the National AOH based on our membership numbers so please pay up!  Please see Bernie Byrne for payment.  New members July through end of year pay $25.00 for dues.

Executive Board Meetings

All members are invited to attend.  The discussion is a little free wheeling but this is where all the planning for our events takes place.  Trustees are encouraged to attend.  So check us out!

President’s Message

Once again I had the honor and the privilege to represent this great organization at the AOH National Convention in New Orleans.  The Division received three awards including a monetary one of $1,000 for all the good work we have done over the past year.  We can all be proud of these awards and national recognition that the devision received.  Now, let’s relax with our families and friends and enjoy the Annual AOH Picnic on September 6, at Bunker Hill Grove #7.

AOH National Convention

The AOH National Convention was in New Orleans from 7/24 to 7/27; our division sent Kevin O’Connor, Ken Sullivan and Marty Moriarty as voting delegates; Dennis Corcoran and Don Kehoe voted for county.  Appointed State delegates from Division #32 were: Don Kehoe, Dan Helfenbein, and Dennis Mahoney.  We received 3 awards for our division: Sponsorship of Freedom for All Ireland, Annual Polar Plunge and the Soup kitchens (we’ll receive a $1,000.00 check from the National Organization for this).

Catholic Action Committee                                                                              Division #32 Wants To Know What The Church Says.  Fellow Hibernians, it has been suggested that I write a short paragraph each month to highlight some aspect of our faith. I'd like to write about what interests our members. Please e-mail (frmac67@yahoo.com), call (773 763-8228) or corner me at a meeting with your questions or article ideas.
